At Hāpara, Hipi and the team are always listening to your input and innovating to better support schools and districts like yours. That’s why we’re so excited to tell you about our latest feature coming to our classroom management tool, Hāpara Highlights.

Get ready for teacher screen sharing, a powerful new feature that will make digital lessons more interactive and engaging than ever before. With screen sharing, teachers will be able to seamlessly share their screens directly to student devices for instruction. This update is set to roll out for the back-to-school season in North America, and we can’t wait to see the impact it will have in classrooms. Hipi is celebrating with extra marshmallows!

How will teacher screen sharing work?

Screen sharing will allow teachers to share their tab or full window (for example, multiple open tabs) with learners in their class. This will allow them to model concepts or demonstrate steps to help learners before they begin working on independent activities. This feature will also help when teachers need to review concepts and provide extra support.

Will all teachers see this feature in Hāpara Highlights?

Screen sharing will be an optional feature that technology administrators can enable in the Hāpara Admin Console. Once this feature is available in the new school year, we’ll reach out to schools and districts with instructions on how to enable it.

Can Hipi share some instructional examples for teacher screen sharing?

Virtual teacher

Educators who teach at virtual schools will be able to use screen sharing in a number of ways. For example, a virtual teacher could demonstrate how to use a digital calculator or take learners step by step through how to find a reliable source online. Or they may want to show learners how to create a spreadsheet in Google Sheets with data for a science project. Virtual teachers will be able to model any lesson by sharing their screen so their learners can follow along in real time.

They could then also use Hāpara Highlights Chat to have a follow-up conversation with individual learners.

Math teacher

A math teacher could share their screen with the class to model how to plot points on an online graph. The class could then break into smaller groups and collaborate on graphing problems.

English language arts teacher

During a lesson on analyzing context clues, an English language arts teacher could use screen sharing to display a passage from a narrative. Then the teacher could highlight words or phrases to model how to identify the parts of context clues and then ask the class to work on the next example in the narrative.

Elementary teacher

An elementary teacher could share their screen with the class and model how to complete a social studies graphic organizer, spell words properly or show common sight words for reading practice.

Co-teacher

A co-teacher could use  screen sharing to help their “class” of learners on an Individualized Education Program (IEP). For instance, they could model how to work through the steps of a challenging math problem or provide targeted instruction on writing.

Spanish teacher

A Spanish teacher could use screen sharing to display an example of a Spanish conversation they wrote in a Google Doc. They could use this to model an activity they would like learners to complete with a partner.

Science teacher

A science teacher could use  screen sharing to demonstrate a virtual simulation that explains the topic of buoyancy. Afterward, they could use Share Links in Hāpara Highlights to send the virtual simulation link to student devices so learners could interact with it themselves.

We’re so excited about the possibilities screen sharing will bring to classrooms. This feature will simplify instruction and create engaging learning opportunities. Hipi and our team are hard at work developing this new feature for you and can’t wait to bring it to schools for the back-to-school season. Keep an eye out for updates as we get closer to our launch!
