Our beginnings
After adopting Google Apps for Education in 2010, educators in New Zealand’s Manaiakalani school cluster realized they needed a better way to manage learners’ activities in the new digital environment. They collaborated to design a dream tool.
Hāpara (the Māori word for dawn) was born from these efforts in 2011, with the launch of its original Teacher Dashboard. Today, Hāpara has a range of products built to support educators as they create safe, personalized learning experiences.
Hāpara
( How to pronounce hā • pa • ra )
Language: Māori
(noun) dawn.
Our values
The Hāpara Instructional Suite is reflective of how we think about learning and its role in creating a better world.
People
When educators engage more deeply with learners and strengthen connections with them, collaboration and teamwork become second nature in the classroom.
Empowerment
By empowering educators, they empower students to become involved in their own learning.
Equity
Creating a school experience that is more collaborative and engaging nurtures social equity, equipping learners to impact the world in a positive way.
Transparency
Understanding exactly what students are doing allows educators to set goals and improve learning experiences.
Technology
We believe technology should support the human relationships that define educational experiences.
Schools love Hāpara
There’s a reason why over two million educators and learners use Hāpara across the globe.
"We aim to keep our students educationally occupied during their classes and then also help them make good choices in viewing options when outside of class. This software helps us to monitor and redirect as necessary as well as provide notifications when students may be in trouble and need adult intervention. We have been able to effectively intervene when students leave comments that need followup (like suggesting self-harm.)"

Lake County Christian Academy
“Equitable access has changed the landscape for learners at Wolf Creek, and Hāpara has helped us improve educational equity because it lets us adapt to learners’ lives.”
Sean Lougheed, Director of Education Services
Wolf Creek Public Schools
“Hāpara is more than just tools that your district purchased. The tools are great, but Hāpara brings together a community of educators from around the world that truly want to help each other successfully implement educational programs focused on student centered learning. That’s where the true magic happens.”
